 Achieve Thru Art Competition

Nicole Sanchez, our Integrity 4/2 art student, won in the following competition:  Achieve Thru Art, Singapore, which was presented by Singapore Changi Airport. The theme of the competition was 'Countries, Cultures, and Festivals'.

Nicole's artwork is entitled 'Two Is Better Than One' as it portrays her love and appreciation for both  hometowns, Philippines, as well as Singapore, the city that she has been living in for almost half of her life.

"Both girls represent portraits of me; in a Singaporean dress and the national costume of Phillipines known as 'Filipiniana'. Within the heart shape, I have drawn the famous national symbols of both countries; the Merlion, the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay, the Jeepney, the Carabao, the 'Bakya' which is the Filipinos' national footwear and more. I believe that each country has its own mesmerizingly unique culture, history and nationality.

In the background, I have drawn my most favourite festivals in Singapore and The Philippines; the Chinese New Year, there is the 'Santo Niño', along with some men in their costumes, during the 'Sinulog' Festival, are some examples.

Loving two countries are truly better than one. Also, no matter where one ends up in life, it is important that he or she treasures his or her country of origin and residence."

AN INSPIRATION TO NAVALITES

Mr Adam Ng Kok Seng
NBSS Alumnus (Class of 1997)
Associate Director, Portfolio Management
Temasek International Pte Ltd
Guest of Honour for Graduation Day 2012
10 October 2012

Mr Adam Ng is a good example to all Navalites that being in the Normal Academic course.is no barrier to life success. He obtained his O levels in NBSS, took the ‘A’ levels at ACJC, and graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) from the Nanyang Technological University. Starting his career as an accountant with Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd, he is now responsible for managing $21 billion value creation opportunities in the Temasek portfolio companies. Wanting to contribute to his alma mater, he has joined the NBSS Alumni Association as well as the School Advisory Committee. He is indeed a role model of the Caring Citizen Future Leader.

The team’s winning entry, Aspirations,  is interpreted as follows:

With hope, optimism and courageous action, we can determine what is to be.

But the exact form of the future remains intangible, somewhat like shadows which entice us with intriguing silhouettes but take no concrete forms.

There could be infinite possibilities, represented metaphorically by the myriad forms of ceramic trees.
